Course Overview:

Whether you are planning to build a basic web page, or planning to build a data-driven web site, you will be using HTML and CSS to build your pages. HTML and CSS are the languages of the web and HTML5 and CSS3 are the next versions of these tools. HTML is what is used to structure a page while CSS is used to format the page. We will focus on building valid web pages, and adding images and links. The class will start with the fundamentals of web development and creating basic web pages and end with students publishing their websites to a web server.

Another aspect of web design that we will focus on throughout the class is making sure that you are building web pages that are accessible to those that use screen readers or other aids when they are viewing web pages. We will also look at ways you can improve the ability of your web pages to be translated to other languages.

Adobe Acrobat allows users to convert documents you create in Word, Excel, PowerPoint or any other application into Portable Document Files (PDF). A PDF can be viewed and printed by any with a copy of Adobe's free Acrobat Reader. In this course students will learn to create and manage PDF files. Students will add navigation aids to their PDF files. Students will prepare documents for review and adding security features to their documents. Students will also learn to complete PDF forms electronically. Students must have a copy of Adobe Acrobat Standard. A 30-day trial of Adobe Acrobat is available for download.

Students will create vector graphics using Flash's drawing tools. Students will create basic animations using motion and shape tweening. Students will create interactive Flash projects using ActionScript. Students will create a web-based application that reads from files and links to other pages. Students will create accessible content using Flash. Students will import sound and video into their Flash animations. Students will need a copy of Flash. A 30-day trial is available.

At the end of this class students will be able to create and manage web sites using Adobe Dreamweaver. Students will insert pictures and media objects into web pages. Students will use Cascading Style Sheets to format web pages. Students will use layers and tables for designing layout for pages. Students will manage sites using Dreamweaver's site management tools. Students will need a copy of Dreamweaver. A 30-day evaluation version is available.

The web is no longer just static web pages that will be viewed with a browser, but is now all about interactivity and being viewed and used on whatever device is handy, whether it is a standard PC and browser, a portable device like a smartphone or tablet or from a TV screen or gaming system. In this course we will learn to build sites that work well on multiple devices, take advantage of device with features like Geolocation and Orientation. We will look at how to add video and sound content that will work on multiple platforms, and look at how to work with SVG and HTML forms.

ATTENTION: This course has a strict start and end date.  When a student enrolls into this course, they will need to work with one of our Training Assessment Managers (TAMs) to choose a start date before they can be enrolled in their course.

This course requires the following software in order for the student to follow along with the course lessons:

• Adobe Flash CC
• Aptana Studio 3

Free trials of Acrobat XI, Dreamweaver CC, and Adobe Flash CC may be available from Adobe but may not last the duration of the course.  Aptana Studio 3 is a free software download from this site.

Adobe Acrobat XI

• Students will install Adobe Acrobat and navigate around the work area.
• Students will create PDF files from various applications.
• Students will combine multiple PDF files and other documents into a single PDF document and ensure their PDF documents are accessible.
• Students will edit PDF documents by rearranging the pages and editing images and text.
• Students will add security features to their PDF documents.
• Students will create PDF forms
• Students will automate tasks in Acrobat using Actions
• Students will create PDF documents for printing and prepress.
• Students will automate tasks in Acrobat using Actions.
• Students will create final project using what they have learned.

Flash CC Introduction

• Students will identify objects created by Flash and identify the tools in the Flash application by name.
• Students will create graphics and symbols in Flash.
• Students will create basic animations in Flash.
• Students will animate using shape tweens and inverse kinematics in Flash.
• Students will use ActionScript to create interactive Flash animations.
• Students will add and format text in a Flash animation.
• Student will add sound and video to their Flash animations.
• Students will include external content in their Flash animation projects.
• Students will publish and optimize their Flash animation projects.
• Students will create a final project in Flash using what they have learned.

Dreamweaver CC Introduction

• Student will define a Dreamweaver site and create basic web page.
• Students will create a page layout for a web page.
• Students will manage cascading styles sheets in their Dreamweaver projects.
• Students will create a template for their Dreamweaver website.
• Students will add text and images to their web pages in Dreamweaver.
• Students will add navigation and interactivity to their web pages in Dreamweaver.
• Students will add Flash animation to a web page and design forms.
• Students will create a website that uses data from a database.
• Students will publish their websites to a web server.
• Students use Dreamweaver and the skills learned in this class to create a web site.
