Medical Assisting is projected to be the fastest growing occupation over the 2002-12 period! They held 365,000 jobs in 2002 alone!

In 2002 Insurance and Billing Clerks held about 507,000 jobs and future employment will be very good through the year 2012.

There are an estimated 255,290 Pharmacy Technicians throughout the U.S. Employment of pharmacy technicians is expected to grow by 21% to 35% for all occupations through 2012 due to the increased pharmaceutical needs of a larger and older population, and to the greater use of medication.

There are an estimated 141,720 medical and clinical laboratory technicians (such as Phlebotomist) throughout the U.S. Employment of clinical laboratory workers is expected to increase by 10% to 20% for all occupations through the year 2012, as the volume of laboratory tests increases with both population growth and the development of new types of tests.

There are an estimated 92,740 Medical Transcription Specialist employed throughout the U.S and is projected to grow by 21% to 35% for all occupations through 2012! Demand for medical transcription services will be spurred by a growing and aging population. Older age groups receive proportionately greater numbers of medical tests, treatments, and procedures that require documentation.

The U.S. Department of Labor projects the healthcare industry to undergo the largest growth of any other industry, with an estimated 4 million new jobs by 2012.

According to NC statistics, by 2008 there will be 10,190 job openings for the job title of entry level medical assisting. This is exciting data for all who seek to improve the quality of their lives and enter the healthcare profession.
