Industrial Process Technology Certificate
Online – 600 Hours

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for people who seek entry-level operator's job in a process plant. There are hundreds of process plants in the United States. There are very few institutions in the country that provide training for entry-level workers for process plants.

Process plants are operated by highly skilled process operators. In process plants, usually there are three or four operator-position levels. This course is designed to prepare a person to apply for an entry-level job. Once a person is employed, he/she moves up the ladder by acquiring experience.

Nature of the Course

This course is designed to be user friendly. If you can use email, you should be able to take this course easily over the Internet. This is a totally web-based course. That means you can participate in the course at any time and from any location. You can also work at your own pace. You can plan your own work schedule - at any time - seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

It is an interactive course. Many modules contain graphical simulations and animations to enhance the learning process. The course delivers some fairly complex concepts in an easy to learn format. Since you are in total control of the course delivery, you can go over the course material a number of times to improve the learning process - this is a key advantage our courses have over the common classroom type learning methods. Many people do not learn in a classroom since the learning material presented only once - some people find it difficult to ask the instructor to go over the material one more time. In our experience an average student needs to be told three times before technical concepts sink in. This is very common and very normal. Unfortunately, it is difficult to accomplish this in a classroom setting. Not so with our courses - you learn at your own pace and you can go over the material many times.

Math Requirements

None. The course covers all of the necessary math concepts.

Learning Outcomes

This is a comprehensive course designed to provide necessary information on many subjects to entry-level workers. A list of modules is provided in this document. A review of the list will indicate the subjects covered in this course. Incidentally, each of the modules contains its own list of learning outcomes.

Expected Seat Time to Complete (hours)

600

Course Duration/Expiry (days)

500

Each course is valid for a given number of days. After the given time limit, the course is no longer available to the student. Therefore, students need to plan their work to ensure they finish the course in time. We believe the allowed time is sufficient for students to finish the course in time - working freely at their own pace. If you need more time due to a legitimate reason, in most cases, we will be able to extend the course validity by a few months.

List of Modules

Each of the modules contains its own Learning Outcomes and an online test.

Maximum Access to Each of the Modules

During the course, you can access each of the modules a limited number of times (15 times). However, each time you access a module you can work on it for a long time. Also, each time you access a module, you can go over and repeat the subject matter many times. We believe an average student should be able to finish a module by accessing it 4 times - extra access is provided to compensate for computer and Internet problems. If your computer is left idle for an excessive time (10 minutes or so), the communication system will terminate your log-in status - in such cases you will have to log-in again.

Maximum Access to Each of the Tests (for each module)

For each of the modules you need to take two tests. An online test and a written test.

You are required to take a module online-test once only. However, to allow for mishaps (communication problems, etc.), the system allows you to take the test three times. If you take a test more than one time, the highest score is recorded.

Written tests need to be emailed to us.

Grading

Online tests are scored on a 0-100% scale. Cumulative score for all modules is used to determine the overall grade. Grade A: 90% or higher. Grade B: 85% to 89.9%. Grade C: 80% to 84.9%. 79.9% or lower: Fail. Pass mark for each of the individual modules is 80%.

Written tests are graded as pass or fail only. If you fail a written test - you are given an additional opportunity to re-do the test. Notice that you do not have this flexibility in normal classroom-type settings. We allow this because our goal is to create opportunities for students to learn, demonstrate their competence and succeed.

How to Take the Course once you are Enrolled

You will be provided with a Student-Code. Using this code, it is very easy to log in and start participating in the course. You will be provided with detailed easy-to-use instructions at the time of enrollment. The course consists of a number of modules. To complete the course, you need to complete all of the modules. Each module consists of an online test and a written test - you need to pass all of the tests.

Equipment Required

a. An ordinary PC (Pentium III or better) b. 56K or better modem. We design most of our instruction pages to download in less than 10 seconds. Some of the graphics-heavy pages may take as much as 20 seconds. c. Macromedia Flash Player. Almost all of the PCs (since 2003) come equipped with this Flash Player. If your computer does not have it, you can download it for free from Macromedia.com
