Course Syllabus

  1. Anatomy and Physiology of the skin, Diseases of the skin.
    1. Summarise the functions of the skin, identify its layers and explain the role of sweat glands
    2. Identify diseases of the skin, diseases of the sweat glands and list the types of lesions that are discussed in this unit
  2. The Foot.
    1. Examine the functions of the foot with regards to weight bearing, locomotion and shock absorption
    2. Identify the foot conditions described in this unit and how each should be treated
  3. The Nail Disorders and Diagnosis
    1. Differentiate between Onychocrytposis and Onychrogryphosis
    2. Explain in detail how toenails should be cut
  4. Implements and Materials.
    1. List the implements involved in manicures and pedicures and summarise the cosmetics involved.
  5. Manicure Procedure.
    1. Summarise the steps and procedures involved in a manicure
  6. Pedicure Procedure.
    1. Interpret the importance of hand protection and list the types of nail breaks that occur and how they should be treated
    2. Identify and explain the stages of a pedicure procedure
  7. Hands and Arm Massage.
    1. Summarise the principles of massage and explain the main movements involved
    2. List the benefits of and contra indications to massage
  8. Sterilisation Business Advice.
    1. Identify and explain the sterilisation methods discussed in this unit
    2. List the seven factors contributing to the hygiene of your salon.

This course is an online course. With online study you have access to your entire course from the start of your studies. You can access your course materials, and submit all of your question papers to your personal tutor, online from anywhere in the World using your unique student account.

There is no experience or previous qualifications required for enrolment on this course. It is available to all students, of all academic backgrounds.

We impose no time limits or pressures on you to complete your course material. Your course will not expire, and it will not become invalid until you have successfully completed it. All that we ask, is that you inform the College if you are intending to take a break from studying for a period of 6 months or more.

Depending on the course you study, each lesson should take you between 3 - 6 hours of study. Please note: This is only an approximate figure and is dependent upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.
