Introduction to Music Industry 

This class will provide an in-depth understanding of copyright law, contracts, agencies and management, live performance, publishing, songwriting, the record industry, music merchandising recording production marketing and career opportunities.  Oultine 

 

Artist Representation 

During the class, you will be introduced to the basic concepts of artist representation. We will explore the responsibilities of the personal and business manager, booking agent, attorney and other representatives as they relate to the development and maintenance of artists careers.   Outline

 

Music Publishing 

An in-depth examination of the processes of copyright law, publishing, and songwriting. Students will explore the different sources of income, types of royalties, and contractual agreements as it pertains to publishing.  Outline

 

Legal Aspects of the Music/Media Industry 

Beyond the creative process very little happens (or should happen) in the entertainment industry that doesn't involve a legal process.  Topics include: Examination of copyrights, contracts and legal considerations in recording, producing, artist representation, retail and other areas of the music industry.  Outline
