Course Overview:

In this professional online beauty therapy course you will learn all about makeup, skin care, nails, body treatments, and hair removal. Get practical training in carrying out treatments, as well as in-depth theoretical knowledge.

Students will:
  • A basic knowledge and understanding of the skin, and how it functions to combat the most common skincare concerns
  • Confidence and competence to use the basic understanding of the skin, and focus an advanced and basic skin care routine into your daily life
  • Knowledge of and practical skills for the basics of makeup products that can be used to apply the basics or advanced application of makeup
  • A general understanding of the body and the common conditions that can be experienced, and how to care for the body to avoid these
  • Practical skills to care for the nails of the hands and feet, and a basic understanding of the different forms of nail enhancements
  • Knowledge of the different types of hair removal techniques, and the correct application of each

Course Outline:

Module 1:
Lesson 1: Basics of skin care        

Learn all out your basic skin care routine and how to take care of the skin on a daily basis. By the end of the lesson, you will be able to differentiate between cleansers, toners and moisturizers and selecting the best possible products to take care of your skin. This lesson will lay the foundation for the next lesson 2, as well as the foundation for the entire course

Lesson 2: Advanced skin care     

Advance your skin care routine on a weekly basis by adding exfoliation and masking. This lesson will focus on the different types of exfoliation as well as masking. Along with lesson one, this lesson will set the foundation to carry through the course as well as assist you in properly caring for your skin.

Lesson 3: Natural Ingredients    

This lesson will incorporate natural ingredients found in your everyday lives that can be incorporated into your skin care routines. It will include fun DIY recipes that will allow you to make your own skin care products at home.

Lesson 4: Introduction to skin types        

Once we have the basics of a skin care routine, and the ability to alternate our products with natural ingredients, this lesson will give you a brief introduction to your skin type, allowing you to select your products based on your skin type and condition.

Lesson 5: Flawless basic foundation        

In this lesson we will move away from the basics of skincare, and start focusing on the application of make-up, beginning with foundation and you will learn how to prep your skin properly, as well as the difference between all of these popular products and be able to establish which will benefit your skin the most. By the end of this lesson, you should be able to apply primer and foundation to the skin.

Lesson 6: Finishing the look        

This lesson will introduce you to the world of eye makeup and help you finish off your look. This will enable you to develop and practice your blending skills, while allowing you to familiarize yourself with some of the products available before you continue onto module 2.

Lesson 7: Brows and lashes         

Brows are the enhancing features on any face, and will always enhance the make up design. This lesson will focus on the enhancement that can do done to the brows and lashes, which could be temporary or permanent, like micro-micro-blading or enhancing the make up with the use of artificial lashes.

Lesson 8: Skin analysis and Skin types    

Building up from the basics in lesson 1-4, this lesson will give you the tools to correctly analyze the skin, and determine the skin type, with the addition of case studies based on the skin types, where you will decide the products that will need to be used for each skin type.

Lesson 9: SPF and Sun care          

Complete your skincare routine with more information to ensure your skin gets all the care it needs. In this lesson we also discuss SPF, the types of SPF, how important it is and what it really protects against. By the end of this lesson, you will never be without a form of protection of your skin again.

This lesson will give you a sneak peak into the rest of the course, providing some of the exciting topics that will be covered

Module 2:
Lesson 1: Makeup tools and brushes      

Do you know the effect that using the right makeup brush has on your make up design? Or do you know that your makeup application will change depending on your choice of natural or synthetic brushes? This lesson will explain the different types of makeup brushes and tools, how to use them and how to care for them so that you get the longest lifespan out of your brush.

Lesson 2: Concealing, highlighting and contouring            

What does the effect of light and dark have on your make up design? Using the principles of enhancing and minimizing features using lighter and darker shades, this lesson will give you the confidence to highlight and contour your makeup design flawlessly. We will also learn how to conceal conditions on the skin using color correcting concealers, based on the principles of the color wheel.

Lesson 3: Advanced makeup techniques

How has makeup evolved over the years? Make up designs from the past are incorporated into our everyday makeup applications, and even into our advanced make up applications like smoky eyes or cut creases. This lesson focuses on makeup application for your next big event and gives you the considerations you should take into account.

Lesson 4: Structure and function of the skin        

We understand the basics of a skin care routine, and understand what the advantage of the correct products based on our skin type will do for our glowing skins, but we need to take the basics to understand how the skin functions, and what happens at every layer of the skin. This lesson gives the basics for the rest of module 2, where we look at different diseases and disorders that can affect the skin.

Lesson 5: Skin conditions             

In this lesson, we will introduce sensitive skin. Sensitive skin has been a topic of controversy in the skin care field for many years, and there is still no finalized answer as to whether this is a skin type or a skin condition. We will then look at the very common skin conditions that we could encounter when treating the skin

Lesson 6: Skin disorders

There are certain precautions you will need to take when working on the skin. Being able to correctly identify contagious disorders or diseases will be of utmost importance in protecting yourself and avoiding cross contamination. There are 2 types of contraindications when working on the skin and this lesson will distinguish between the two.

Lesson 7: Lifestyle          

In this lesson, we recap on some of the most common lifestyle factors that have an effect on the skin. This lesson incorporates actions that occur in our daily lives, like the diets we consume, the daily hygiene, and the effects of stressors and sleep on our skin, and how they prevent us from achieving that glow. We look at the considerations and adjustments we can make to help our skin deal with these.

Lesson 8: Acne 

Acne is a very in-depth skin condition, of which most of the population has struggled with at some point in their lives. In this lesson, we try and get to the root of the causes of acne and what daily triggers we could be exposed to that would bring on a breakout. We then look at different methods of treating acne, based on over the counter ingredients that you could start looking out for and then look at some of the medications that can be used to treat acne, should you need to consult with a doctor for treatment. At the end of this lesson, you will learn how to perform your own extraction, if you do need to remove anything from the skin, but be careful how you do this and follow the guidelines set up in this lesson.

Module 3:
Lesson 1: Hormonal skin care     

In this lesson, we will focus on the effects that different hormones have on the skin, and what happens to the skin during the changes in hormone levels of the body like puberty, pregnancy and menopause, and the adjustments we should take to the skin during each of these times in our lives.

Lesson 2: Multicultural skin care

How are different skin colors affected by the sun? How does the sun affect the aging, color and pigmentation in different skin tones? If you have a lighter skin type from Asian descent, you might already have experienced hyperpigmentation issues when going into the sun, or are well aware of the effects of the sun on your skin. Or if you have darker skin tones from African or South American descent, you might experience longer Post inflammatory scarring after a blemish. This lesson will determine the Fitzpatrick skin type, and how to care for multicultural skin types

Lesson 3: Men's skin care             

What is the difference between a man’s skin care routine and a woman’s? Do men have different products that they should use? Are there certain conditions that men suffer with that could be easily remedied? This lesson will introduce the basics of a man’s skin care routine, as well as a few common skin conditions that could be easily remedied. This lesson will help us spread the word on the importance of men taking care of their skins

Lesson 4: Facial massage             

The most relaxing part of any service is the facial massage, and there are so many good benefits to the face as well as the skin when performing massage regularly. Massage is regarded as one of the oldest, known to human, health care services. Today, there are above 80 different types of massage treatments with emphasis on different body parts and type of treatment. In this lesson, we are going to introduce different massage movements, and different massage techniques, so that you can incorporate it into your daily routines as well your facial treatment

Lesson 5: Facial electrical             

Take the first step into advancing your skin care basics, by introducing electrical therapy into a facial treatment. Before we introduce different modalities, this lesson will teach you electrical safety in the treatment room, and then we will introduce the basic electrical equipment each salon should have, a steamer, galvanic and high frequency machine.

Lesson 6: Facial electrical continued       

This lesson will build on the basic introduction to electricity that was covered in lesson 5, and introduce 3 more electrical devices, and how to use them in the treatment room, as well as include them into your home care routines

Lesson 7: Introduction to advanced skin care      

Do you know the difference between a doctor, dermatologist and a medical esthetician? This lesson is going to introduce advanced beauty treatments into the skin care and beauty world, with the birth of the medi-spa, and how it has evolved the beauty industry.

Lesson 8: Advanced skin care     

This lesson will focus on the advanced treatments that are performed on the skin, building up from the introduction to them on lesson 7. This lesson will give information on the deeper treatments performed on the skin, how they are done, and the effects of them

Module 4:
Lesson 1: Body conditions           

Moving onto the body, lets break down advanced body treatments, with the breakdown of cellulite, stretch marks and varicose veins. We will look at how these conditions are formed, how we can prevent the, and if you are experiencing any of these conditions, how we can treat them, with both at home treatments and advanced treatments

Lesson 2: Body wraps and massage         

You are now aware of the common body conditions that you can experience, and ways in which you can minimize, reduce or even rid of them. We learn some of the alternate treatments like body wraps and body massage which helps to in reducing these too. You will learn about the different kinds of wraps, and how to use them. This lesson also includes some DIY recipes that you can make your own body wraps

Lesson 3: Cosmetic ingredients 

Maybe it has not happened to you as yet, but now that you are almost completed this course, and you will have the skills to treat the skin and body, many people will ask you if what they are using for their skins are the correct products. The only way you are going to know that is if you know how to read an ingredient label, and what to look out for when it comes to ingredients, and how they function on the skin. This lesson will teach you the ingredients formulated to work together in products, and which you should avoid, and which are safe to use on the skin

Lesson 4: Introduction to hair removal   

We have all at some time of our lives got frustrated with the amount of hair we find on our body’s- why do we as humans need body hair? Should we remove all our body hair or are there certain areas on the body that hair removal should be avoided? Do you know that there are different types or hair, and they all grow at different stages? This lesson will look into the structure of the hair, and explain why at some times you may experience a really quick regrowth, and at others, it may take a longer time for the hair to return, after a wax or shave. Do you know the other methods of hair removal? This lesson will give you the confidence to perform your own removal techniques on you or in your treatment room, so no more at home waxing nightmares.

Lesson 5: Manicuring basics        

When people think of a nail service, they immediately think of a beautiful manicured nail, or better yet, a beautiful set of gel or acrylic nail tips, but it is very important to understand and care for the basic nails when receiving these treatments. In lesson 5, we are going to look at the structure of the nail, followed by the basic tools needed to carry out a manicure. This lesson will introduce the manicure steps to you, with the different styles on paint, and finish off with the inclusion of nail art into your manicure service

Lesson 6: Pedicuring basics         

Everyone loves a good foot soak, and massage, with the added treatment of beautifully painted nails, what more could you ask for? This lesson will give you the basic nail diseases that you should look out for on the nails, before continuing with a pedicure treatment, which could be done manually, or with the assistance of an electric file, which will speed up the treatment. At the end of this lesson, you will be well equipped with the knowledge and practical skill to perform the basics of both a manicure and pedicure treatment

Lesson 7: Nail enhancements    

While some might love the appearance of a beautifully manicured nail, others might suffer certain conditions that prevent them from having that. Weakened nail plates, soft nails and nail biters would benefit from the application of nail enhancements. This lesson is going to introduce the different types of enhancements, introducing you to the world of gel and acrylic nails, and then looking at how to combine these systems to get the longest lasting, strongest nail enhancement

Lesson 8: The beauty business  

Our last lesson of this course is going to introduce the beauty industry and what it takes to work in this industry. Have you thought about what the future holds now that you have taken a beauty therapy course? This lesson will give you the ins and outs of working in the beauty industry, what your different options are when it comes to choosing a career path, and what you can expect from your different career choices.
