Course Outline:

Lesson 1: Introduction to QuickBooks Online Plus

Lesson 1 will serve as an introductory lesson to QuickBooks. You will learn about the different versions of QuickBooks, the basics of navigation within the Online version, and how to prepare a report. More information on the desktop and mobile versions of QuickBooks will be covered in lesson 10. For now, we focus on learning the features of the online version. As you go through all 10 lessons you may need additional files to complete the drills within the text. These files have been provided on the QuickBooks Online Plus website and your login information has been provided on the Student Access Code Card that accompanies your text. Make sure you access these files before going forward with this course.

Lesson 2: Create a Company

Within Lesson 2 you will partake in a serious of step-by-step guides and drills that will demonstrate how to set up a fictitious company.  This will include inputting company information, accounts, items, customers, and vendors and other details that must be provided before transactions may be recorded in QuickBooks.  Any additional files required for drills in this lesson are available via the online student access of your text.

Lesson 3: Sales and Receivables: Service Items

This lesson will focus on recording sales - for both cash and on account - customer payments, bank deposits and other transactions for receivables and sales.  In addition to recording transactions, you will also prepare several reports.  Any additional files required for drills in this lesson are available via the online student access of your text.

Lesson 4: Payables and Purchases

Lesson 4 focuses on recording purchases and payments, writing checks and using Petty Cash.  In addition to recording transactions, you will also prepare several reports. Any additional files required for drills in this lesson are available via the online student access of your text.

Lesson 5: General Accounting and End-of-Period Procedures

In lesson 5 you will learn and practice end-of-period procedures including; recording journal entries for depreciations and adjusting entries required for accrual-basis accounts, recording equity transactions, reconciling bank statements, preparing and printing appropriate reports and closing the end-of-period. Any additional files required for drills in this lesson are available via the online student access of your text.

Lesson 6: Sales and Receivables: Product and Service Items

Lesson 6 will continue to build on the work produced in earlier lessons.  This lesson will focus on entering the sales tax for purchases, preparing invoices and sales receipts, recording sales discounts, adding logos, recording transactions for various locations and classes and adding new customers, venders, accounts, products, services and terms to your accounts.  Any additional files required for drills in this lesson are available via the online student access of your text.

Lesson 7: Payables, Purchases and Inventory

Lesson 8: General Accounting, End-of-Period Procedures, and Budgets

In lesson 8 you will focus on recording end-of-period transactions, adjustments and reconciliations, assign a closing date and preparing the corresponding reports. Pay careful attention to quantities, amounts and dates as you work through this lesson.  A careless error can require a tremendous amount of effort to correct. Any additional files required for drills in this lesson are available via the online student access of your text.

Lesson 9: Payroll

Lesson 9 will focus on procedures for activating payroll, processing payroll, paying payroll liabilities, and preparing payroll reports.  You will only use the Test Drive Company for the drills in this lesson as it would not be appropriate to enroll in a payroll program, process payroll, and pay tax liabilities for your fictitious company.  Any additional files required for drills in this lesson are available via the online student access of your text.

Lesson 10: Quickbooks Desktop, Mobile and Additional Features

The QuickBooks Online Program contains many areas that were not explored during the training chapters of the text.  The appendices will present information regarding some of these areas including the desktop and mobile versions and additional features to QuickBooks not covered in this text such as Recurring Transactions, Timesheets, Bad Debts and Attachments.
